Mr. Abernathy at Performance
Riverside has asked me to get a preliminary count for those that might be
interested in this year’s shows. The economy slump has hit them like everyone
else. So, we’re trying something different this year. It will be very helpful to
him (to help keep the program going) if you would take a few minutes to do this.
Thank you. Right now I am just
collecting interest but no money. Then in September I will contact you again for
the money. You will pay once for all the shows you want to book for the year.
But this gives you a couple months to think about where the money is coming
from. Those that use Charter schools will probably find it easier to book
through the charter school so that they will pick up the tab. I believe you can
still sit with our group if you want. Anyone is welcome to book through this group but I will need cash or a check in September. OK, so here’s the scoop. It’s that time again – time
to set your calendars for this year’s offerings at Performance Riverside –
located in Landis Auditorium at Riverside City
College (Riverside). These plays are usually
very well done, sometimes with Broadway sets even. And the price savings is
phenomenal. The $8 daytime shows go for about $28 or more during the regular
performances. Note that one of this year's plays will actually be out at March
Air Force Base. At the end of this post you
will see all of this year’s offerings. Below is a list of all the steps that you
will follow in September (just to give you a head’s up). Right now we are only
doing steps 1 and 2. 1) Decide what plays you want to see. Please note that all seatings are first come, first served, so you will always be asked to be at the theatre at least ½ hour before any given show time. In addition, you need to leave at least 10-15 minutes for parking and walking to the theatre. In addition, be aware that children under 4 are not allowed in the theatre (though we have been successful getting “cling-ons” in if you sit near the back in case the infant starts crying). The guidelines for what grades the play is good for are just that – guidelines. The only age restriction is the one mentioned. 2) Email me (Sandi at
fayschool@yahoo.com) with your selections. For those shows with multiple
dates and/or times, you must let me know which specific date and
time that you want. 3) I will email you back
with payment information. I will need to have all money in hand (for all shows)
by September 18 (the date of the first show). There are no refunds of these
moneys. However, usually if a problem comes up and there is a different showing
you can attend you will be allowed to attend that one. 4) I will also ask you to
sign up for a yahoo group from which reminder notices will go out automatically
(those that are signed up from last year will not need to do so again). This
means everyone will get every notice but each notice will have a specific list
of paid attendees. Chuck Abernathy from Performance Riverside will also be a
member of this group and will be able to let people know if there are extra
seats available for purchase at the door or not. Sometimes there are and
sometimes there are not. 5) I’m also looking for people who are willing to be responsible for gathering attendees at each show. They are used to school groups so like for us all to enter as a single group. Sadly, I can’t attend many of the shows anymore so cannot do it myself. 6) Finally, before each performance you will receive a reminder notice giving parking information, who to look for in line, etc. You’ll know that you have it all set up and don’t have to worry about a thing. Just show up and enjoy!
